Mobile World Congress took place this week in Barcelona, and wearables were center stage. LG launched two new smartwatches, HTC announced a VR headset and activity trackers, and perhaps the biggest wearables talk of the show was Huawei‘s stylish new smartwatch.
Android Wear appears to continue to hold the top spot for smartwatch OS, being included in both the new Huawei and LG smartwatches.
LG’s smartwatch efforts also show an emphasis on style. The LG Watch Urbane builds upon the already beautifully designed G Watch R and adds luxury stylings. LG also announced the LTE version which, as the name suggests, comes with its own LTE cellular connection. Due to that feature it is slightly larger than the non-LTE version, an LTE modem of course had to be added.
However it was Motorola who took home the award for Best Wearable Mobile Technology for the Moto 360. In the award selection judges wrote, “Its very carefully engineered design bridges the worlds of consumption and creation like no other. Users can embrace the tablet form factor leaving their PC behind with no regrets.”
