Samsung Gear S Revealed

Just two months after the reveal of their Gear Live, Samsung has revealed their newest wearable entry, the Samsung Gear S. The Gear S is no iteration of the same smartphone accessory that nearly every company has been putting out however, for Samsung’s Gear S is the first of the line to be independent of its smartphone counterpart with it being SIM enabled.

While many watches are trying to stay true to their wrist watch roots and not be packed with too many features, the Gear S seems to be the antithesis of that. Perhaps the biggest feature of the watch is its capacity for a SIM card, making it essentially a smartphone on the wrist. The watch can make phone calls from the wrist, or access the internet without having to be tethered to an accompanying Galaxy phone (however you do need one to actually set up the watch). Differing from the Gear Live, the Gear S will run Tizen OS meaning navigation is typically done through swipes.

 

Taking the Gear S even further away from its Gear predecessors, it strays away from its square screen and instead comes with a 2 inch OLED curved screen, that contours to the shape of the wrist. With such a large screen, it brings the watch closer to being a singular device, rather than being an accessory.

 

In addition to all of the smartphone-esque features, the watch still comes packed with health and fitness features, such as multi-sensors, GPS, and S Health features to make it a fitness tracker as well.
