Smartwatch developer Pebble has just unleashed their Version 2.3 software, an update for Pebble smartwatches which gives Android users Android Wear notification compatibility, along with other new features.
Pebble’s official blog announced the Version 2.3 update on December 16. Those with Android devices will soon be able to act on Android Wear notifications right from their Pebble smartwatches, rather than only being able to receive and dismiss notifications.
In their blog post, Pebble has videos to show Android users how easy it is to perform basic tasks like replying to a Google Hangout with emojis or sending money to friends via Square Cash. Both videos show how quick and simple these functions are. Another Version 2.3 feature is automatic app and watchface updates when the Pebble smartwatch is idle. Sample video below:
These and other Android Wear-Pebble interactions integrate seamlessly, says Pebble, “thanks to the open approach Google built into Android’s notification system.” Pebble’s post goes on to say that they hope “more mobile operating systems follow suit so all Pebblers—no matter their smartphone choice—can take advantage of all the delightful features we introduce now, and in the future.” Pebble is currently growing both their Android and iOS teams to achieve further compatibility.
Android users can go ahead and test Version 2.3 now. Any “Pebblers” that have a device running Android 4.0 or higher can join the Android for Pebble Beta Channel, a beta testing group for the software update. No invite is required to join the group.
