Owlet: The Wearable for Babies

Fresh off the heels of a $1.85 million funding, Owlet is looking to help parents better monitor their babies via wearables. The smart sock houses a sensor that leverages pulse oximetry to monitor a baby. Pulse Oximetry is a method of monitoring oxygen saturation levels through the use of red and infrared light. The technology has been used in hospitals since the early 1980’s.

The smart sock measures heart rate, oxygen, skin temp, sleep quality, and sleep position. The sensor connects wirelessly through Bluetooth 4.0 to send updates in real time to the parents’ smartphones via the Owlet App. Alternatively the device also includes a USB plug in. The sock is hypoallergenic, water resistant, and uses no adhesives.
