MOOV Gets Moving with New Funding
Written By Wearables.com
Dubbed “a personal coach at a [fitness] tracker price,” by the LA Times, MOOV isn’t your ordinary wearable fitness tracker. As opposed to many trackers out in the market that simply keep note of your activity and relay that back to you, MOOV wants to change the way you exercise entirely through an AI coaching platform that gives feedback as you exercise.
In a market that is busting at the seams with similar products, MOOV is capitalizing on their difference, and it shows. While starting out on their crowd-funding campaign with a modest goal of $40,000, the MOOV team well passed that goal, becoming the most successful crowdfunded fitness device ever. In two weeks, MOOV raised $1 million dollars, and even more impressively were able to deliver a device to backers before their promised delivery date. Now just six months after its launch, MOOV has secured $3 Million with a new round of Series A funding led by Banyan Capital.
Currently, the design of MOOV looks somewhat similar to the Misfit Shine, with a round device head that can be fastened on articles of clothing, or worn on the wrist or ankle. Once worn, MOOV works with multiple apps depending on the type of exercise. Currently, there are 5 apps available on the app store, including Running, Cardio Punch, Swim, Cycling, and Body Weight, each with unique coaching. So the feedback it provides from the Running app for example, coaches runners to change the way they run by adjusting stride and landing to improve form and reduce injury.
