Longer Battery Life in Wearables

Ineda Systems, a startup with offices in Santa Clara, California, and Hyderabad, India has developed processors specifically for wearables that it claims can extend battery life by up to 30 days. The company’s Dhanush Wearable Processing Unit (WPU) features hierarchical computing that was designed with wearables in mind, to run at more optimal power levels, including with a sensor hub that never turns off.

Extended battery life is a key goal for the wearables market, principally as it aids the user experience with the devices, and having to charge your devices less reduces the amount of behavioral change that has to be implemented. Ineda received over $17 million in funding from Samsung and Qualcomm, two giants in the wearables space.


Ineda expects to begin shipping its chips in the second half of 2014. If this happens, we could see devices with the Ineda technology hit the market as early as mid-2015.
