If you’re a swimmer, you already know how important it is to keep track of your pace, number of laps, and other statistics. And you also probably know that wearable technology companies haven’t exactly come to your rescue with an easy way to collect all of this information — until now. To swimmers’ delight across the world, startup Swimmo hopes to mass-produce the first smartwatch made with the aquatic sport in mind.
The swimming smartwatch the company has designed is completely waterproof and comes with a heart rate monitor and a color OLED display. Other features include Bluetooth Smart connectivity and compatibility with fitness apps like Strava, RunKeeper, and HealthKit. Swimmo also has its own app, which is free.
Swimmo comes with exclusive features bound to be exciting for swimmers. IntensityCoach is designed to keep track of your heart rate and keep you in the best heart rate zone for you, while PaceKeeper vibrates if you’re moving slower than a certain pace range.
Swimmo is connected to a smartphone app that serves as a swim log to set personal goals, like calories burned, swimming distance, or time in the water. The watch will vibrate when you’ve met the goals you’ve set. For the competitors out there, the app is outfitted with a social sharing component and a Leaderboard where swimmers can see where they rank among their friends.
However, if you want to use another app to track your swimming progress, you can. Swimmo can sync to apps like Strava, RunKeeper, MapMyFitness, and more thanks to Bluetooth connectivity.
Swimmo reached its Kickstarter goal of $39,000 mid-campaign, and the startup is well on its way to doubling that amount before the campaign ends on May 20th. Those who pledge enough money can receive a Swimmo watch all their own.
