Japan’s Wearable Tech Startups

Japanese wearable tech companies are taking a more American approach to getting their devices to market. Japanese entrepreneurs in the wearables space are claiming that even though Japanese investors are eager to not miss out on the next big hardware device wave as they did with smartphones, their actions seem to mimic traditional Japanese business culture from years past. These entrepreneurs include makers of Moff, a wearable smart toy that focuses on making gesture recognition fun, and Logbar, a ring that allows for gesture control over multiple devices. Attracted by the excitement around wearables in the US, both companies have launched kickstarter campaigns focused on the US market to help get their products into American consumers’ hands.
