First batch of Apple Watch apps is small, varied and picked with purpose

Written By Wearables.com

The first batch of third party apps for the Apple Watch hit the App Store early Friday, and more are appearing for purchase as they’re green-lit on a rolling basis by the company.

This initial release of apps is as small as it is wide and varied. Undoubtedly, this is because these 24 apps are what will be used to demo the Apple Watch in-store. You too can get a look at the apps by purchasing them on your iPhone now, but of course, the full functionality can’t be ignited until using the proper device.

9to5Mac first reported the group, noting that each is an update to a previously existing app.

Now, as for what’s available: For emerging linguists, there’s Babbel. For constant travelers, there’s the Starwood Hotel app — which allows users to check in directly from the wearable.

There’s also Dark Sky to check the weather instead of going outside yourself, and Kitchen Stories to watch how-to videos from the comfort of your own wrist. And perhaps the most helpful might be TransitApp, which has real time bus and subway information in 75 cities in the U.S.

For the list in its entirety, see below:
