Facebook Buys Oculus VR for $2 Billion

Written By Wearables.com

In an unexpected move, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced the company’s acquisition of virtual reality headset maker Oculus VR. Oculus is most known for their Oculus Rift product, a headset for 3D virtual reality gaming. The headeset helped Oculus raise over $2.5 million in a Kickstarter campaign.

On a statement on his Facebook page, Zuckerberg claimed that the acquisition will continue to help Facebook grow in their mobile efforts, and new platforms. Though not currently widespread, Facebook is betting that “immersive, virtual and augmented reality will become a part of people’s everyday lives.”
